Rio de Janeiro Nature & Climate Week convenes 6,000, culminates in Global Citizen Live concert

Rio de Janeiro hosted the annual Nature & Climate Week, gathering more than 6,000 participants from across the Global South and international climate circles. The forum emphasized integrated action on climate change, biodiversity loss and desertification, with discussions on carbon‑methane reduction, a just energy transition, climate‑finance mechanisms, urban roles and Indigenous leadership. Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere pledged to sign a decree establishing the "Corredor Azul" – a new network of four conservation units – in the coming weeks.

The week closed on Environment Day with the free Global Citizen Live: Rio concert at Botafogo’s Enseada. Hosts Giovanna Ewbank and Bruno Gagliasso introduced a line‑up that included Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Score, and Brazilian star Ludmilla, alongside YG Marley and Zion Marley. The event linked music and entertainment to mobilise support for Amazon protection, climate justice and communities affected by environmental change.
