Jacarepaguá BRT passenger killed by gunshot during police operation

A passenger, identified as 53-year-old Flávio de Abreu Lira, died after being shot inside a BRT bus in Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro, on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred on the Transolímpica corridor near the Ventura station while the vehicle was traveling through the region.

The shooting took place during a Police Military operation in the nearby Dois Irmãos community, aimed at combating territorial disputes between criminal factions. While Mobi-Rio, the BRT operator, reported the victim was hit by a stray bullet, the Military Police suggested the shot may have originated from members of the Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP) faction.

During the ongoing police operation, authorities reported the arrest of one individual and the seizure of three rifles. The Asa Branca station was temporarily closed to allow for forensic investigations by the Civil Police.
