Rio de Janeiro police arrest man after teenager escapes kidnapping attempt

Police in Rio de Janeiro have arrested Anderson Rodrigues Leite in connection with the attempted kidnapping of a 15-year-old girl in the Engenho Novo neighborhood. The incident occurred on a Friday evening while the teenager was returning from school.

The victim reported that a man in a car with tinted windows approached her, claiming to be armed. After she handed over her phone, he pulled her into the vehicle. While the car was in motion, the girl managed to open the door and jump out, sustaining injuries to her head and knee upon hitting the pavement. She successfully escaped by running into a nearby residential complex.

Following an investigation involving intelligence surveillance and security footage, authorities located Leite in São Pedro da Aldeia. He was taken into custody after a temporary arrest warrant was issued. During questioning, the suspect stated he is a bus driver and claimed to have been under the influence of alcohol mixed with controlled medication. The vehicle used in the crime was later recovered in the Irajá neighborhood.
