Brazil crime: Officials shot and tourist scammers arrested

In Rio de Janeiro, authorities arrested two sisters, Enaile da Conceição Silva and Hosane da Conceição da Silva, in São Gonçalo for their involvement in the ‘Boa Noite, Cinderela’ scam. The group targeted tourists in central areas like Lapa and Pedra do Sal, using substances such as clonazepam to incapacitate victims before stealing electronics, jewelry, and conducting unauthorized bank transfers. Victims included citizens from the United States, Canada, and Turkey, with one Turkish tourist reportedly losing over R$ 130,000.

In the Marajó Archipelago, Bremem Silva, the chief of staff for the Portel City Hall, was shot six times while inside a vehicle on Friday night. Despite the severity of the attack, medical reports indicate his condition is stable. A suspect on a motorcycle fled the scene, and security forces are conducting joint operations to locate the perpetrator.

In Mato Grosso, a 40-year-old man was kidnapped by mistake in Várzea Grande. After being shot in the leg during an attempted escape, the group realized they had the wrong target during a video call with their employer and abandoned the victim in a wooded area.
