Rio de Janeiro police arrest two suspects after shootout near Norte Shopping

Two suspects were arrested following a shootout near Norte Shopping in the Cachambi neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro's North Zone. The incident occurred during a patrol by the 'Segurança Presente Del Castilho' operation when officers observed the pair attempting to rob a driver on Avenida Dom Helder Câmara.

During the confrontation, the suspects opened fire on police officers and attempted to flee toward the shopping center's parking lot, causing pedestrians to seek shelter in nearby businesses. Officers from the 3rd BPM (Méier) assisted in the pursuit, leading to the apprehension of both individuals. The suspects have been taken to the 44th DP (Inhaúma) and face charges of attempted murder and robbery. The shopping center reported that the incident did not impact its operations and remains functional.
