Rio de Janeiro police bust clandestine ammo factory and seize weapons in Realengo and Méier

On July 9, the Rio de Janeiro Military Police (PMER) conducted an operation in the Jardim Novo complex of Realengo, uncovering an illegal ammunition factory. Investigators found 3‑D printers, firearms of various calibers, two rifles, a submachine gun, five grenades, pistols, narcotics, about R$20 000 in cash and seized roughly 1 kg of cocaine. Police faced armed resistance, with shots fired at the team and a suspect injured and taken to hospital.

A separate municipal operation on July 8 in the Grande Méier neighbourhood involved the Subprefecture of Zona Norte II, the municipal guard and social services. Officers seized 19 bladed weapons – including six knives, nine piercing tools and four scissors – and removed about 1.2 tonnes of debris from the streets. The action is part of an ongoing campaign that has confiscated over 100 white‑weapon items and millions of kilograms of waste in the past six months, while also directing vulnerable residents to social assistance programs.
