Rio de Janeiro police launch anti‑theft operation and open specialized precinct complex
The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police carried out a large‑scale raid on scrap‑metal yards and car‑parts dealers in the city and Baixada Fluminense, targeting the illegal market for stolen vehicle parts. The sweep, part of the second phase of “Operation Torniquete,” resulted in more than 1,070 arrests and the seizure of assets valued at over R$56 million.
In a related effort to strengthen law‑enforcement coordination, a new “Cidade da Polícia Civil” complex is being built in Niterói. The facility will house the Delegacia de Roubos e Furtos de Automóveis, the Delegacia de Roubos e Furtos de Cargas and the Delegacia de Repressão a Entorpecentes, consolidating around 150 civil police officers under one roof to improve intelligence sharing and the fight against organized crime in the metropolitan region.
