Rio de Janeiro police launch operation against Comando Vermelho expansion

The Military Police of Rio de Janeiro launched an operation on Wednesday involving approximately 200 officers to prevent the territorial expansion of the Comando Vermelho criminal faction. The action targets communities in Rio's North Zone and the Baixada Fluminense region.

Intelligence reports indicated that Comando Vermelho members were meeting to coordinate an invasion of areas including Vigário Geral, Parada de Lucas, Cidade Alta, Cinco Bocas, and Pica-Pau. These locations are part of the Complexo de Israel and serve as a stronghold for the rival Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP) faction.

The operation utilizes specialized units from the Special Operations Command and the 15th BPM, supported by six armored vehicles, 40 light vehicles, and aircraft from the Aeromóvel Group. Specific communities targeted include Quitungo, Guaporé, Furquim, Dique, Ficap, and Parque das Missões.
