Rio de Janeiro police occupy Complexo de Israel to combat crime

The Military Police of Rio de Janeiro has announced an indefinite occupation of the Complexo de Israel, covering the neighborhoods of Vigário Geral, Parada de Lucas, and Cordovil in the city's North Zone. The operation aims to restore public security in an area controlled by the Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP) criminal faction.

The police intervention follows intense clashes and shootings that impacted major infrastructure, including the Avenida Brasil, where two trucks were set on fire, causing significant traffic disruptions. During the operations, authorities arrested several suspects and seized weapons, including rifles and grenades.

Beyond combating organized crime and vehicle theft, the occupation specifically targets religious intolerance. Investigations indicate that the local criminal group has been persecuting practitioners of African-origin religions, using symbols associated with Israel to assert dominance in the territory.
