Rio de Janeiro begins R$ 8.3 million restoration of Cordão da Bola Preta center

Various regional initiatives in Brazil are focusing on accessibility, youth engagement, and cultural preservation. In Rio de Janeiro, the city has begun an R$ 8.3 million restoration of the Cordão da Bola Preta cultural center, with completion expected by the first half of 2027. Additionally, the Rio de Janeiro State Assembly approved a project to increase ecotourism accessibility through improved infrastructure and trained guides, while the city council passed the ‘Desafio Jovem Inovador’ to encourage youth-led solutions for public administration.

Social inclusion efforts are also prominent. Santos held workshops on inclusive ceremonial practices for public servants, and Nova Friburgo hosted accessibility-focused cultural programming. In Rio, the JUVRio program is offering 350 free vocational courses for youth, and the Hebraica Rio club has opened 100 free judo spots for public school students. Other legislative measures include the proposed ‘Estatuto da Calçada Carioca’ to improve sidewalk accessibility and a project to provide gym discounts for bariatric surgery patients.
