Rio de Janeiro proposes tax exemptions for 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup

The Rio de Janeiro state government has submitted a bill to the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) to ratify ICMS tax exemptions and suspensions for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Following a national agreement approved by the National Council of Fazendária Policy (CONFAZ), the measure covers imports, sales of goods, and services related to transport and communication for the event. The benefits apply to FIFA, its subsidiaries, commercial partners, service providers, and involved public agencies, with validity until December 31, 2028.

The state government aims to use the tournament to drive social and economic legacies, including the promotion of women's sports, tourism development, and infrastructure improvements. The project includes performance targets such as the creation of over 7,500 direct jobs in the state and an expected influx of more than 150,000 people for matches held in Rio, which will host the opening and closing ceremonies at the Maracanã stadium.
