Rio de Janeiro provides free public venues for wedding and graduation photos

The Rio de Janeiro municipal government has opened five public locations for free rehearsal and ceremony photo shoots. The sites include Parque Glória Maria in Santa Teresa, the waterfront area of the Região Portuária (Boulevard Olímpico, Praça Mauá and the Museu do Amanhã), Quinta da Boa Vista in São Cristóvão, Largo do Boticário in Cosme Velho and Parque Guinle in Laranjeiras. Users must apply for authorization through the Portal Carioca Digital for most sites, and larger events at Quinta da Boa Vista also require prior notice.

In addition, the historic Palácio Tiradentes, former seat of the Rio state legislature, now offers free photographic sessions for couples, debutantes and other celebrants one Friday each month. Sessions are booked via email, last up to 40 minutes, allow two photographers, and are subject to rules that prohibit drones, flash, food, drinks and touching historic fixtures. The initiative aims to give residents affordable, culturally rich backdrops for personal milestones.
