Rio de Janeiro Public Defender and OAB-RJ Open Legal Residency Program

The Defensoria Pública do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, in partnership with the OAB‑RJ, announced the launch of a Legal Residency program for lawyers. The first edition offers 100 vacancies distributed across all regions of the state. Applications are free and can be submitted until 17 July through the Defensoria’s portal. Selection will be based on curriculum analysis and a qualified interview, with interviews scheduled to begin on 21 July.

The program includes inclusion measures, reserving 5 % of the spots for people with disabilities and 30 % for self‑declared black, brown or indigenous candidates. Residents will support the Defensoria’s work by conducting legal research, drafting documents and assisting the public. “Em pouco tempo, conseguimos transformar um compromisso institucional em uma chance real de qualificação e inserção profissional para advogados e advogadas de todo o estado,” said Ana Tereza Basilio, president of OAB‑RJ.
