Brazil weather alerts: Heavy rain and storms impact multiple states

Heavy rainfall and severe weather alerts have been issued across several Brazilian states. In São Paulo, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has maintained orange and yellow alerts for storms. Orange alerts cover major regions including the metropolitan area of São Paulo, Campinas, and Ribeirão Preto, with potential rainfall of up to 100 mm per day, winds reaching 100 km/h, and risks of hail, flooding, and power outages. The capital city has recorded its highest rainfall for the first half of September since 1943, with 253.8 mm recorded at the Mirante de Santana station.

In the coastal city of Santos, rainfall in the first two weeks of September reached 400.99 mm, nearly triple the historical monthly average. Similar extreme conditions were noted in Cubatão and the surrounding Baixada Santista region. In Niterói, an orange alert is in effect due to the threat of intense rain and high winds.

Other regions are also facing instability. Inmat has extended a potential danger alert for intense rain to 44 cities in Espírito Santo. In Paraná, a yellow alert is active for Londrina and several northern regions. In Minas Gerais, a stationary front is expected to bring continued rain to Belo Horizonte through Wednesday. Authorities have advised citizens to avoid standing under trees during wind gusts and to disconnect electronic devices during intense storms.
