Rio de Janeiro scheduled road closures for maintenance

The City of Rio de Janeiro has announced several planned traffic interdictions for maintenance work scheduled for Thursday night and Friday morning, October 22-23, 2026.

Key closures include:

• Elevado das Bandeiras: The lower deck heading toward São Conrado will be closed from 11:00 PM Thursday to 4:30 AM Friday. Traffic between Barra da Tijuca and São Conrado will be diverted to the upper deck.

• Túnel Vice-Presidente da República José Alencar: This tunnel will be closed toward Barra da Tijuca from 11:00 PM Thursday to 4:00 AM Friday. Vehicles will be diverted via Serra da Grota Funda (Avenida Artur Xexéo), with BRT buses following specific detour protocols.

• Túnel Rebouças: The tunnel will be closed toward Lagoa from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM on Friday. During this time, the opposite direction will operate with a reversible lane toward Zona Sul and two lanes toward Centro.

CET-Rio operators will monitor traffic conditions and adjust traffic light timings to facilitate flow through detour routes.
