Rio de Janeiro Senate race: Benedita da Silva leads in latest poll

A Datafolha poll indicates that Benedita da Silva (PT) leads the race for one of the two Senate seats in Rio de Janeiro with 18% of the intended votes. This lead is statistically isolated from the second-place candidates, Carlos Jordy (PL) and Carlos Portinho (PL), who are tied at 10% each.

The competition for the second Senate seat remains highly contested among a group of candidates including Pedro Paulo (PSD) and Marcelo Crivella (Republicanos), both at 7%, and Monica Benicio (PSOL) at 6%. The margin of error for the survey is three percentage points.

Monica Benicio, a two-term city councilor and architect, is running with the PSOL-Rede Federation. Her political platform focuses on urban planning, human rights, and LGBTQIA+ rights. She previously served on various municipal commissions and has authored legislation regarding feminicide prevention and the removal of tributes to historical figures associated with slavery and torture.
