Rio de Janeiro subprefectures seize weapons, clear debris in north zone
Municipal teams conducted two separate urban‑ordering operations in Rio de Janeiro's north zone. In Manguinhos, authorities seized two simulated firearms, 63 knives, 38 other cutting tools and 31 items linked to drug use, and removed about 20 tonnes of waste and debris. The action, coordinated by the Subprefeitura da Zona Norte I and multiple city agencies, follows a June raid that cleared 137 illegal structures and 45 tonnes of rubble.
In Grande Méier, the Subprefeitura da Zona Norte II, together with the municipal police, social assistance and sanitation services, confiscated 19 white weapons – six knives, nine stabbing tools and four scissors – and collected roughly 1.2 tonnes of unusable material. Over the past six months, the integrated operations in the area have taken more than 100 white weapons and eight tonnes of waste off the streets, while also referring vulnerable individuals to municipal support services.
