Rio de Janeiro to host 2028 World Federation of Interventional Neuroradiology Congress
Rio de Janeiro has been selected to host the 19th Congress of the World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (WFITN) in 2028. Dr. José Guilherme Caldas, the president of the upcoming edition, presented the organizational preparations for the event during the 18th WFITN congress held in Busan, South Korea.
The biennial congress serves as a global platform for specialists to discuss advancements in treating vascular diseases of the brain and spinal cord. Key topics of discussion at the recent Busan meeting included patient selection for thrombectomy, aneurysm treatment, and the integration of artificial intelligence in neurointervention.
Dr. Caldas is also linking his medical advocacy with ocean sailing through the “Every Minute Counts” campaign. This initiative, aligned with the World Stroke Organization, aims to raise awareness for stroke prevention and immediate treatment. The campaign was recently featured during the Globe40 2025/2026 sailing race.
