Rio de Janeiro to host dramatized reading of ‘A Tragédia dos Trópicos’

A dramatized reading of ‘A Tragédia dos Trópicos’, written and directed by João Santucci, will take place on August 19 at the Instituto Cervantes in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro. The event is part of the III Ciclo de Leituras Dramatizadas 2026, organized by Miguel Angel Zamorano of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in partnership with the Instituto Cervantes.

The play is a suspenseful work set in a future Rio de Janeiro following a civil war that fragments Brazil into independent nations, leading to the reinstatement of slavery. The performance features a cast of established actors and includes live piano music by Thalyson Rodrigues. Admission to the event is free.
