Niterói launches major drainage and infrastructure projects

The City of Niterói has commenced a large-scale macrodrainage project for the Rio Icaraí Basin. The initiative includes the construction of a massive underground reservoir at the Caio Martins Stadium, designed to hold 80 million liters of water to mitigate decades of flooding. The project, which involves an investment exceeding R$ 380 million, will also feature six kilometers of new drainage networks and will eventually transform the surface area into a public park with sports facilities and leisure spaces.

In addition to flood prevention, the municipality is advancing local infrastructure through the final stages of implementing the first Basic Health Unit (UBS) in Icaraí. Located on Rua Álvares de Azevedo, the facility is designed to serve approximately 100,000 residents with a specific focus on geriatric care and home visits.

Furthermore, Niterói is introducing its first zero-fare feeder bus line, AL01. This service will connect the Jardim das Paineiras housing complex in the Badu region to the central area of the neighborhood, improving mobility for low-income residents.
