Rio Ferdinand discusses Carlos Tevez's 2009 Manchester United departure
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand recently reflected on Carlos Tevez's controversial 2009 move from Manchester United to Manchester City. Appearing in a Boca Juniors jersey, Ferdinand discussed the tension surrounding the transfer on his podcast, 'Rio Ferdinand Presents'.
Ferdinand admitted that he initially disapproved of the decision, noting that Tevez did not seem to grasp the intensity of the rivalry between the two Manchester clubs. However, he acknowledged that Tevez felt undervalued by Manchester United due to delays in contract renewal negotiations. Ferdinand recalled that then-CEO David Gill had even asked him to contact the Argentine player to persuade him to stay, but Tevez's decision was final.
During the discussion, Ferdinand noted that Tevez had confronted him directly about his criticisms of the transfer, asking, “Why didn't you like it? What was your problem?” The former defender highlighted Tevez's direct personality, which remained unchanged since their time playing together.
