Rio Grande do Norte authorities launch investigations into prison and clinic irregularities

The Public Ministry of Rio Grande do Norte (MPRN) has initiated administrative procedures to oversee a R$ 1.8 million electrical grid renovation at the Alcaçuz Penitentiary Complex in Nísia Floresta. Recent inspections revealed severe infrastructure failures, including unstable power causing gate automation failures, damaged security monitors, and short circuits in body scanners. These electrical issues have also disrupted medical services and caused water shortages and sewage overflows.

Separately, health authorities in Mossoró have shuttered a rehabilitation clinic for operating without sanitary permits or fire department authorization. Inspections identified significant irregularities, such as improper medication storage and administration by unqualified staff. The clinic also failed to provide the 24-hour nursing and therapy services it advertised. Residents were transferred to public health and social assistance networks following the closure.
