Espírito Santo bans betting advertising in public spaces
Governor Ricardo Ferraço of Espírito Santo has signed a decree prohibiting the advertising of games, lotteries, and betting houses, known as 'bets', in public spaces across the state. The measure aims to reduce population exposure to gambling advertisements and combat issues related to addiction, compulsion, and family debt.
This state-level decision follows national trends and recent federal guidelines from the Ministries of Justice and Finance, which established rules for betting advertising, including prohibitions on targeting minors. In Espírito Santo, the move is supported by recent actions from the State Public Ministry to monitor the influence of celebrities and influencers on betting platforms.
Other regional legal developments in Brazil include the Supreme Federal Court ordering the Santa Catarina Court of Justice to explain the disqualification of an autistic lawyer from a judicial position, and the Rio Grande do Norte Court of Justice annulling an irregular driver's bonus in São Bento do Trairi. Additionally, the Santa Catarina Court of Justice declared a municipal attendance prize in Maracajá unconstitutional, citing violations of administrative morality.
