Rio Grande do Norte court orders Cadu de Lula to remove attack video

The Regional Electoral Court of Rio Grande do Norte (TRE-RN) has ordered Cadu de Lula (PT), a candidate for Governor, to immediately remove a video from Instagram containing attacks against his opponent, Allyson Bezerra (União).

The court's decision follows a video in which Cadu de Lula celebrated a previous judicial ruling that had suspended a campaign advertisement by Bezerra. In that video, Cadu de Lula accused Bezerra of being a “liar” and playing “dirty games,” while also linking him to the Mederi Operation, an investigation into health contracts in Mossoró.

Judge João Afonso Morais Pordeus ruled that the previous decision regarding Bezerra's campaign materials did not constitute a judicial declaration of Bezerra's personal honesty or a confirmation of “dirty games.” The court imposed a fine of R$ 5,000 for each subsequent violation of the order, capped at R$ 30,000. Cadu de Lula has since complied with the order to remove the content.
