Milton Leite remains in detention amid PCC transport investigation
The Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) has denied a request to release former councilman Milton Leite from temporary detention. Leite, a member of the União Brasil party, has been held since September 18 following his surrender to police in Mogi das Cruzes, Greater São Paulo.
Leite is a central figure in Operation Vectura Corrupta, an investigation into the infiltration of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) criminal organization within São Paulo's public transport system. Investigators allege that Leite is the de facto owner of Transwolff, a company that operates bus lines in the capital city.
The operation is also examining allegations of public servant corruption and the use of criminal organization funds to finance political campaigns. The investigation has resulted in arrest warrants for 16 individuals and searches conducted at 18 addresses across seven municipalities in the state of São Paulo. Leite's defense has challenged the legality of the arrest, but the request for a habeas corpus was rejected by Minister Rogério Schietti Cruz. Leite maintains his innocence and denies any connection to the PCC.
