Rio Grande do Norte creates ID card for people with rare diseases

The government of Rio Grande do Norte has established the Identification Card for Persons with Rare Diseases (CIPDR). The measure, sanctioned and published in the State Official Gazette, aims to facilitate access to public and private services, ensure priority care, and expand assistance for these patients.

The legislation also authorizes the creation of a state registry to collect information on individuals with rare diseases to support public health policies. According to the law, rare diseases are defined as those affecting up to 65 people per 100,000 individuals, based on epidemiological criteria from the Ministry of Health.

The CIPDR will include a QR Code or other digital resource to allow rapid access to essential medical information during emergencies, such as continuous medications, allergies, and emergency contacts. The card provides priority service in public and private sectors, particularly in health, social assistance, and education.
