Rio Grande do Norte expands agribusiness and aquaculture initiatives

Various agricultural and aquaculture initiatives are being promoted in Rio Grande do Norte to strengthen the regional economy. Sebrae-RN announced that starting in 2027, it will expand its backyard poultry program to all municipalities in the state, focusing on legalizing activities and helping small producers access formal markets like supermarkets.

At the Festa do Boi event, experts discussed opportunities in aquaculture, specifically regarding oyster, fish, and shrimp production. Discussions highlighted the potential for tilapia farming in regions like Lagoa Nova and the importance of technical assistance to overcome water scarcity challenges.

Additionally, the 22nd National Shrimp Fair (Fenacam) was launched in Natal. The event, scheduled for November 2026, aims to bring together industry professionals to discuss the growth of shrimp farming, a sector that provides over 40,000 direct jobs in the state.
