Rio Grande do Norte Football Federation launches anti‑violence campaign for August Lilás
The Federação Norte‑Rio‑Grandense de Futebol (FNF) is running a campaign throughout August to mark the national "Agosto Lilás" movement against violence toward women. The initiative, titled “Respect is not optional. It is the rule of the game,” aims to raise awareness among the football community in Rio Grande do Norte about prevention, reporting and confronting domestic and family violence.
The campaign highlights the 20‑year‑old Lei Maria da Penha (Law No. 11.340/06) as a key legal instrument protecting women. FNF calls on clubs, athletes, officials, media personnel and fans to join the effort, stressing that combating gender‑based violence is a collective responsibility both on and off the field.
Violence against women remains a serious issue in Brazil, with femicide and other crimes reported nationwide. The federation urges anyone experiencing abuse to contact the hotline 180, or in emergencies to call the police at 190.
