Rio Grande do Norte legislative and judicial developments

The Legislative Assembly of Rio Grande do Norte has approved the nomination of Carlos Roberto Galvão Barros to serve as the Attorney General of the Public Ministry attached to the State Court of Accounts (MPC-RN) for the 2027-2028 biennium. Following a hearing by the Constitution, Justice, and Redaction Commission, the nomination now moves to the Assembly's plenary for final approval. Barros, who has worked with the State Court of Accounts since 2005, stated his intention to prioritize preventive and resolutive actions over purely punitive measures.

Separately, the Court of Justice of Rio Grande do Norte (TJRN) has declared parts of an administrative reform in Parnamirim unconstitutional. The unanimous decision invalidates several commissioned positions created under municipal law, ruling that these roles were assigned to permanent administrative activities that should be filled by civil servants through public examinations. The court ordered the municipality to restructure its administration and conduct a public competition within 12 months. The invalidated roles include various technical positions in IT, legal advisory, and municipal management.
