Paraíba sees record job growth and tourism surge as state surpasses fiscal limits
The Brazilian state of Paraíba recorded a 12.9% increase in formal employment in 2025, adding 103,278 jobs to reach 906,500 workers, with the services sector accounting for the majority.
In July 2026, the state’s tourism authority trained about 300 travel agents from the EHTL operator in São Paulo to promote Paraíba’s destinations, highlighting its beaches, cultural festivals and expanding hotel network.
A Booking.com analysis showed João Pessoa as the second‑most‑searched vacation spot in the Northeast for July 2026, trailing only Fortaleza and ahead of Maceió.
Meanwhile, a Treasury report revealed that Paraíba’s personnel expenses reached 49.75% of its current revenue, exceeding the 49% ceiling set by Brazil’s Fiscal Responsibility Law, indicating fiscal pressure alongside the economic gains.
