Rio Grande do Norte regulates use of confiscated assets for security
The government of Rio Grande do Norte has enacted Decree No. 35,980/2026, regulating the distribution of assets and funds confiscated by the judiciary in money laundering and asset concealment cases.
Under the new rules, 70% of the net resources will be allocated to the Fund for the Development and Improvement of Civil Police Activities (Fundapol), while the remaining 30% will go to the Public Ministry's Re-equipment Fund (FRMP). These funds are strictly designated for modernization, technological upgrades, intelligence, investigations, and professional training. The decree explicitly prohibits using these resources to cover ordinary personnel expenses.
In addition to cash and bank balances, the regulation allows for the direct incorporation of seized vehicles and real estate into these institutions, provided they meet specific legal requirements and demonstrate utility. This measure aims to transform assets recovered from criminal investigations into tools for enhancing public security and combating organized crime.
