Rio Grande do Sul cultural scene expands with theater reopening and new artisan center

Rio Grande do Sul is seeing a diverse surge in cultural activities, highlighted by the upcoming reopening of the historic Theatro São Pedro in Porto Alegre. After being closed since March of last year for revitalization, security, and accessibility upgrades, the theater is scheduled to reopen on November 27. Ticket sales for the inaugural week begin on October 15, featuring performances such as contemporary dance by the group Primeiro Ato and a concert by singer-songwriter Adriana Calcanhotto.

In Pelotas, a new Reference Center for Handicrafts has been inaugurated at the Central Market. The center features the ‘Tramas do Inventário’ exhibition and the ‘Mães da Pampa’ collection, showcasing work from over 60 artisans from the ‘Rota da Lã’.

Additionally, the youth theater production ‘O Mistério da Menor Ilha do Mundo’ is conducting pre-premieres in schools and community spaces across the islands of Porto Alegre. The play, which explores themes of memory and nature following recent floods, is a collaboration between Rakurs Teatro and Morabeza Cultural.
