Rio Grande do Sul legislature honors Paulo Paim and Luciano Zucco with medals
On 30 May the Assembleia Legislativa of Rio Grande do Sul awarded two of its most prominent politicians. Senator Paulo Paim (PT‑RS) received the Medal of the 56th Legislature in a plenary session, where he recalled his participation in the 1987‑88 Constituent Assembly, praised social movements and reiterated support for a 40‑hour workweek. He also confirmed he will not seek re‑election but will remain active in politics.
At the same ceremony in Porto Alegre’s Teatro Dante Barone, pre‑candidate for the state government Luciano Zucco (PL) was presented with the Medal of Mérito Farroupilha, the legislature’s highest honor. Zucco highlighted his military background, legislative achievements such as anti‑abigeato laws, transparency measures and the Manu Law against childhood cancer, and called for economic development, reduced bureaucracy and infrastructure investment in Rio Grande do Sul.
