Rio Grande do Sul leverages Italian heritage for wine and culture
Rio Grande do Sul has established itself as a major hub for viticulture in Brazil, driven by the arrival of European immigrants in the 19th century. The state is estimated to account for approximately 85% of the national production of fine wines and is home to more than 1,200 small and medium-sized wineries. This success is attributed to a combination of favorable climate, terroir, technical innovation, and the development of wine tourism.
In a related cultural context, the III Meeting of the Italian Community of Rio Grande do Sul was held to discuss the future of Italian descendants in the region. Organized by Comites-RS, the event brought together leaders and authorities to bridge the historical traditions of 19th-century immigrants with the modern innovations of 21st-century Italy. Discussions focused on preserving identity while embracing contemporary entrepreneurship and knowledge production.
