Rio Grande do Sul parties unveil federal election candidates
The Democracia Cristã (DC) party held its state convention in Canoas, Rio Grande do Sul, announcing a slate of roughly 32 candidates for the Chamber of Deputies and endorsing Luciano Zucco (PL) for the state governorship. Party president Luis Afonso said the final list will be confirmed after documentation checks. The meeting also noted a national internal dispute over the party's presidential nomination, with former minister Aldo Rebelo reportedly replaced by former Supreme Court justice Joaquim Barbosa.
Separately, the PSOL‑Rede federation convened in Porto Alegre, outlining a strategy to double its representation in the federal lower house. The party withdrew Berna Menezes’s candidacy to concentrate support behind councilor Roberto Robaina for a second seat. PSOL also confirmed Manuela d’Ávila's Senate run in alliance with the PT and PDT, emphasizing its independent stance from the ruling coalition.
