Rio Grande do Sul plans hospital expansion in Santa Maria

The government of Rio Grande do Sul is studying an expansion of hospital assistance in Santa Maria. The proposal includes the addition of 20 new beds at the Hospital São Francisco de Assis, consisting of ten Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and ten clinical beds.

Through the SUS Gaúcho program, the initiative also aims to implement three specialized outpatient clinics focusing on rheumatology, neurology, and vascular surgery. These measures are intended to increase access to specialized consultations and strengthen healthcare services for the population in the central region of the state.

State Health Secretary Arita Bergmann stated that rheumatology services are expected to be available in November, pending the publication of an official ordinance and the completion of necessary evaluations. The expansion remains subject to administrative stages and formal adherence from involved municipalities.
