Rio Grande do Sul regional entities launch climate and political agendas
Public consortia in Rio Grande do Sul are coordinating efforts to build climate resilience following extreme weather events in 2024. During a meeting of the Associação Gaúcha de Consórcios Públicos (Agconp) in Santa Cruz do Sul, representatives discussed using regional cooperation to address issues that cross municipal boundaries, such as river siltation, soil drainage, water management, and preparing for alternating periods of water excess and scarcity.
Luiz Carlos Pinto Ribeiro, president of Agconp, emphasized that the scale of these challenges requires a coordinated response to prevent recurring problems. The consortia involved serve more than 5 million residents in the state.
In a separate regional initiative, the Mobilização pela Serra Gaúcha has established the ‘Agenda Eleições 2026’. This supra-partisan movement, involving entities such as Bento+20 and MobiCaxias, has structured seven strategic axes—including infrastructure, health, and economic development—to guide future executive and legislative candidates. The goal is to transform technical regional diagnostics into actionable government plans aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
