Rio Grande do Sul reports July crime statistics and low theft rates
The Public Security Secretariat of Rio Grande do Sul has released crime indicators for July. During the month, the state recorded 82 cases of intentional violent lethal crimes, including 63 homicides, two robberies resulting in death, and five femicides.
Property crimes included 750 pedestrian robberies and 114 vehicle thefts. In rural areas, 289 cases of livestock theft (abigeato) were reported.
According to the Brazilian Public Security Yearbook, Rio Grande do Sul has maintained the lowest rate of cell phone robberies in Brazil for two consecutive years. In 2025, the rate was 21.7 per 100,000 inhabitants, down from 27.9 the previous year. Authorities attribute this to preventive and repressive actions, including the inspection of commercial establishments to curb the illegal sale of stolen devices.
