Rio Grande do Sul Senate and Gubernatorial Candidates Debate Key Issues Ahead of 2026 Election

A televised debate organized by TV Gaúcha will be held on 6 August at the PUCRS theater in Porto Alegre, featuring pre‑candidates for the Rio Grande do Sul governorship. The event will be broadcast live on YouTube, with audience seats allocated to subscribers who answer why debates matter, ensuring a diverse crowd of citizens, officials and media.

Earlier, Federasul’s “Tá na Mesa Eleições” panel gathered eight Senate pre‑candidates in Porto Alegre to discuss public security, tax reform, the state’s debt, infrastructure and the role of the Supreme Court. Participants included Ubiratan Sanderson, who warned “Brasil falirá se os atuais ocupantes do Palácio do Planalto e do Supremo não forem responsabilizados,” and others who called for debt renegotiation, increased railway investment and removal of left‑wing influence.

Both events reflect the growing focus on policy proposals and criticism of the federal government as the 2026 elections approach in the southern Brazilian state.
