Rio Grande do Sul Senate race: Paulo Pimenta names substitutes and candidates pitch proposals

Federal deputy Paulo Pimenta (PT‑RS) announced his Senate ticket for Rio Grande do Sul, naming former deputy Carlos Eduardo Vieira da Cunha (PDT) as the first substitute and Tamyres Filgueira (PT) as the second. The announcement took place at the PDT state headquarters in Porto Alegre and was attended by leaders from eight parties in the Frente Ampla alliance, including pre‑candidate Manuela D’Ávila (PSOL) and former governors Olívio Dutra and Tarso Genro. Pimenta emphasized the alliance’s unity, stating, “We are not a team of first and second substitutes. We are a team that will build together for the next eight years.”

Separately, the Federation of Commerce of Rio Grande do Sul (Fecomércio‑RS) hosted a forum where Senate pre‑candidates—including Renato Jaguarão (Cidadania), Frederico Antunes (PSD), Germano Rigotto (MDB), Manuela D’Ávila (PSOL), Marcel van Hattem (Novo), Milton Cardoso (PSDB), Paulo Pimenta (PT) and Ubiratan Sanderson (PL)—presented proposals on efficient public management, tax rationalisation, labour‑capital relations and corporate longevity. Organiser Luiz Carlos Bohn highlighted the Senate’s role in balancing powers and shaping legal security.
