Rio Ivinhema State Park leads Brazil in birdwatching rankings

The Parque Estadual das Várzeas do Rio Ivinhema (PEVRI) achieved significant national recognition during the October Big Day 2026, an international birdwatching and recording event. Managed by the State Government through Imasul, the conservation unit ranked first in Brazil for the total number of observation lists submitted, with 109 lists recorded.

In terms of species diversity, the park ranked second nationally, with 217 different bird species identified. The results, published via the eBird platform, also placed the park in the top position within the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. These findings highlight the importance of state-managed conservation units in documenting biodiversity and protecting local ecosystems.
