Rio Jundiaí achieves national environmental recovery milestone

The Rio Jundiaí has undergone a significant environmental transformation, evolving from a heavily polluted waterway to a national benchmark for river recovery. This progress is the result of decades of integrated sanitation investments and collaborative actions between various municipalities and institutions.

A major milestone in this process was the 2017 reclassification of the river from Class 4 to Class 3, making it the first watercourse in Brazil to have its entire length reclassified. This achievement follows over thirty years of planning and sanitation infrastructure development, including sewage treatment efforts that began gaining momentum in the mid-1980s.
