Rio Maior hosts ASPC European Forum for high-performance sports

The Rio Maior Sports Centre hosted the ASPC European Forum from September 22 to 25, marking the first time the event has been held in Portugal. The forum brought together over 100 participants from 19 countries and four continents, representing more than 40 high-performance sports centers and approximately 50 organizations.

The gathering included coaches, researchers, sports executives, and representatives from Olympic and Paralympic movements. Discussions focused on elite athlete preparation, including applied sports research, innovation, career management, technical qualification, and leadership. A significant emphasis was placed on addressing the specific needs of Paralympic athletes.

More than 20 Olympic and Paralympic athletes participated, contributing direct experience regarding the pressures of training, competition, and recovery. During the event, the Portugal National Wheelchair Handball Team was honored for winning a bronze medal at the recent World Championship, highlighting the connection between high-performance training centers and international sporting success.
