Rio Mavuba resigns as Girondins de Bordeaux coach
Rio Mavuba has departed as the head coach of Girondins de Bordeaux amidst significant institutional instability. Despite having recently extended his contract in July, Mavuba has opted to terminate his agreement as the club faces an uncertain future.
Bordeaux is currently fighting for survival following an exclusion from national competitions. The club's status depends on a pending decision from the National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) regarding reintegration into the National 1 division. Additionally, the club's takeover by Sparta Capital is contingent upon this outcome, while the threat of judicial liquidation remains.
Mavuba is expected to join his former club, LOSC Lille, in a management role within their youth academy. He cited the difficult working conditions, including truncated preseason preparations and the loss of key players, as factors in his decision. Assistant coach Arnaud Cormier will serve as interim manager while the club seeks a permanent replacement, depending on the results of ongoing administrative procedures.
