Rio Preto City Council rejects R$ 35 million budget reallocation

The Rio Preto City Council has rejected a proposal by Mayor Fábio Cândido to reallocate R$ 35.45 million from the municipal budget. The project, which sought to divert funds primarily from the Health and Education sectors, was defeated in a vote of 6 in favor, 15 against, and one abstention. The rejection also occurred on legal grounds, leading to the archiving of the project.

The proposed reallocation involved withdrawing R$ 32.25 million from the Health Secretariat, largely intended for civil personnel salaries and employer obligations. Additionally, R$ 3.2 million was to be taken from Education for employer obligations.

The funds were intended for various other departments, most notably R$ 16 million for the Secretariat of Environment and Urbanism to cover solid waste collection and disposal services currently managed by SeMAE. Other planned allocations included R$ 3 million for Agriculture, R$ 3.2 million for General Services, and R$ 2 million for Social Development.
