RIO – Riosulense partners with UCS for hydrogen and biofuel engine research
RIO – Riosulense, a major Latin American automotive parts manufacturer, has partnered with the University of Caxias do Sul (UCS) to launch its first research program focused on engine components for hydrogen and biofuels.
The initiative aims to develop high-performance components for low-carbon engines as part of a global energy transition. According to Clebson Atilio Ferreira, the company's Technical Manager, the project seeks to create solutions tailored to the Brazilian market, which has a strong capacity for producing biofuels such as ethanol, biodiesel, biomethane, and hydrogen.
The research anticipates that while heavy and extra-heavy vehicle segments will likely continue using internal combustion engines, diesel will be replaced by sustainable alternatives. The program will address technical challenges related to the production, storage, and engine application of hydrogen.
