Rio Sono ordered to improve Guardianship Council infrastructure

The Judiciary has ordered the municipality of Rio Sono, Tocantins, to take urgent measures to improve the infrastructure of its Guardianship Council (Conselho Tutelar). Following a request from the Public Ministry of Tocantins (MPTO), the city has 30 days to prove it has acquired necessary equipment or initiated a bidding process to address precarious working conditions.

Technical reports revealed significant issues at the council's headquarters, including roof leaks, deteriorated paint, broken computers, and a lack of telephone lines. The facility also lacks basic furniture such as desks, chairs, and cabinets, and lacks sufficient partitions to ensure private consultations, which violates guidelines from the National Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (Conanda).

In a separate effort to strengthen child protection, the MPTO is conducting training sessions in Palmas for guardianship councilors from approximately 40 cities in Tocantins. The training focuses on legislation, council structure, and the potential of the Childhood and Adolescence Fund (FIA). Officials noted a significant gap in funding, stating that while the state's potential for income tax allocation to the FIA is R$ 82 million, only about R$ 939,000 was collected in 2025.
