Rio Tinto must meet all legal requirements for Jadar project, says Serbian minister

Dubravka Đedović Handanović, Serbia's Minister of Mining and Energy, stated that Rio Tinto must fulfill all legal requirements, procedures, and demands from state authorities if it intends to implement the Jadar project.

Handanović noted that Serbia has largely not yet utilized its potential regarding lithium. She expressed hope that the country will have the strength to exploit its mineral resources, including lithium and borate, in a manner that is sustainable, protects the interests of citizens, and provides maximum benefit to the nation.

The Minister observed that Rio Tinto spent much of the previous year focusing on internal changes. She emphasized that state bodies are currently reviewing documentation submitted by investors to ensure it is complete and meets all prescribed regulatory conditions.
