Rioja wine tourism gains international recognition and high-end expansion

The Rioja region in Spain is strengthening its position as a global leader in wine tourism. In Rioja Alavesa, the Legado Bodegas Faustino project in Oyón has been awarded the Best Of Wine Tourism International 2026 by the Great Wine Capitals network. Specifically recognized in the Architecture, Parks, and Gardens category, the project was selected for its ability to integrate contemporary design, sustainability, and landscape through its visitor center, Planeta 1.0.

Simultaneously, the Barrio de la Estación in Haro is launching a new promotional strategy to establish itself as an international destination for high-end wine experiences. A group of six century-old wineries—CVNE, Bodegas Gómez Cruzado, La Rioja Alta S.A., Bodegas Bilbaínas-Viña Pomal, Muga, and Bodegas RODA—is collaborating to expand their offerings. The initiative aims to move beyond traditional tastings by integrating gastronomy, local culture, and hospitality to increase tourist spending and distribute visitors more evenly throughout the year.
