Rionegro and Matamoros launch student nutritional support programs

Municipal administrations in Rionegro, Colombia, and Matamoros, Mexico, have launched nutritional support programs for students during the 2026 academic periods.

In Rionegro, the local government is investing approximately $1.6 billion pesos to deliver 16,000 nutritional packages to students in 39 official educational institutions. The initiative, managed by the Secretary of Education, covers both urban and rural areas. Each package contains 17 food items, including tuna, lentils, rice, eggs, and milk, intended to support students during the October school break.

In Matamoros, Mayor Beto Granados and the DIF Matamoros have initiated the School Breakfast Program for the 2026-2027 cycle. The program aims to serve over 16,000 basic education students across more than 170 schools. In addition to food supplies, the strategy includes providing kitchen utensils to facilitate breakfast preparation on-site, with the goal of improving student concentration and learning conditions.
